Luthier - How guitars are made.
Classical guitars are a type of acoustic guitar that is characterized by their nylon strings and their distinctive, warm sound. Often played in classical, flamenco, and folk music, these guitars have a rich history dating back to the 16th century. Their smaller, more intricate design allows for more precise fingerpicking and playing of complex melodies. Classical guitars are favored by many musicians for their unique tone and versatility. Guitars are used by many artists to express their musical expressions. Many see the guitar for more than what it is, artists and enthusiasts alike view this instrument as an icon, a part of history, and a way to show their craftsmanship. Local luthier, Ken Solomons, explains his creative process on how he creates his own classical guitars. “Every guitar begins with a discussion with the client. They generally have an idea of what they're looking for with the wood species, the look and the scale length. Once we've decided on the materials that they're looking for, I will find the best material I can that's most suitable.” Mr.Solomon explains. Afterwards, Mr.Solomon will measure the stiffness and density of wood which will determine the thickness of the top and back plates of the guitar. “the other elements of the guitar I've already designed. And that's a continuing evolution of the experience I get. I'm building each guitar from that point and it's primarily a woodworking exercise, doing all of the decorative elements of the wood, the finish, and the fretting”. Says Mr. Solomon. In order to ensure the longevity of his career and for other luthier’s as well, Mr. Solomon’s practices harvesting his wood from sustainable resources. “Builders and players all share a passion for this, and we want this to continue. There are already many great guitars in the world, but it's irresistible to continue to create more.” says Ken Solomon.
